About the Program
The Ph.D. program in Industrial Engineering is started in the 2015-2016 academic year in addition to the existing master’s program. The contemporary areas of study in this program include production planning and inventory control, supply chain management, optimization, engineering economy and cost analysis, energy economics, electricity market analysis, disaster management and transportation, financial engineering and applications, optimization in health care systems, and decision support systems.
The requirements for a Ph.D. degree include 21 credits of coursework in the basic disciplines, a non-credit seminar, passing a qualifying examination in the field of specialization, proposing and completing a dissertation, and a successful defense of the dissertation.
The medium of instruction is English.
Why Should I Choose This Program?
Industrial Engineers strive for designing, developing, management, and sustainability of systems in which resources such as raw materials, information systems, energy resources, capital investment, equipment, work force, and time are utilized in coordination. Therefore, Industrial Engineers must be individuals who have coordination capabilities, systematic point of view, analytical and quantitative skills, and who are resourceful life-long learners.
The increasing population and demand despite the scarce resources requires the efficient use of these resources. The recent developments in communication and globalization enabled the demand and supply to be internationally accessible. An increasing number of studies on the efficient use of available resources have been carried out in Industrial Engineering in accordance with to the motto that ”Engineers make things, Industrial Engineers make things better.” Industrial Engineers work in improvement of for-profit systems with the goal of producing high quality outputs at low cost by utilizing the inputs efficiently and excel in areas such as development of alternative production policies and coordination of interdisciplinary projects. The relevance of this discipline in various industries results in high employment rates for Industrial Engineering graduates, especially in management roles.
The faculty members in our graduate program are accomplished academicians who have studied and worked at universities that are distinguished worldwide and who work on cutting-edge research projects. The Industrial Engineering faculty is excited to share their experience and knowledge with our graduate students.
What Will I Learn in This Program and How Will It Contribute to My Career?
Our graduates will:
- have a strong theoretical background in industrial engineering,
- will gain the capabilities of identifying and solving complex industrial engineering problems in manufacturing and service industries using science and engineering principles as well as by proposing innovative models and methods,
- will be able to work in multi-disciplinary teams in addition to being able to work individually, and
- will be life-long learners who follow recent developments in industrial engineering by considering the relevant ethical, social, legal, and environmental issues.
